Sam Hurcom is a writer and PhD researcher. He attained a BA in Philosophy at Cardiff University in 2013 and an MA in Ethical and Social Philosophy at Cardiff University in 2014. He gained literary representation with Adam Gauntlett of Peters, Fraser & Dunlop in 2018, and had his debut crime novel, A Shadow on the Lens published with Orion (Hatchette UK) in 2019. Set in his home town of Dinas Powys, South Wales, A Shadow on the Lens received praise from both The Guardian and The Times and was nominated for Capital Crime’s Debut Novel of the Year award. Sam’s second novel, Letters from the Dead was published in 2020. Sam’s current PhD research examines the ethics of creative artificial intelligence, including generative language models.
